Monday Update

  • Bryan and I will be back tonight with Wrestling Observer Radio talking Shannon Spruill (Daffney) and Dark Side of the  Ring, Cain Velasquez, Best of the Super Juniors, weekend fallout and Raw among other things.  You can also send questions to the show to dave@wrestlingobserver.com
  • We’re looking for your thoughts on both AEW Double or Nothing and NXT Battleground.  You can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match from each show to dave@wrestlingobserver.com
  • Neither show did major numbers in Google searches.  The AEW show did 21,000 and the NXT show did 17,000.  The person with the highest interest level yesterday in AEW was Will Ospreay and NXT was Trick Williams.  For the week, Jon Moxley was still ahead  of Ospreay and Page.  Ospreay was well ahead of Page for the week but the day of the show it was very close.
  • WWE announced Lyra Valkyria vs. Becky Lynch for the IC title in a rematch will be part of Money in the Bank on 6/7.
  • Several of the guys in last night’s Anarchy in the Arena are pretty banged up.  Adam Page also talked about how hurt his body was coming out of last night’s match with Will Ospreay.  I haven’t heard anyone out for an extended period but some may not be in the ring wrestling for a couple of weeks.
  • Raw tonight is the final night of the Tampa run.  They’ve announced Seth Rollins vs. Sami Zayn vs. Finn Balor and Penta vs. Chad Gable vs. Dragon Lee in MITB qualifiers, plus New Day vs. War Raiders vs. Creeds fr th e tag team titles.  As of this morning they were 300 tickets shy of a sellout  so it will be sold out at just under 10,000.
  • For Worlds Collide, it was Dalys & Chik Tormenta who WWE showed on camera after the Stephanie Vaquer win over Jordynne Grace.
  • Because of the holiday, there will be ratings delays this week.  Last Monday’s Raw rating will be out tomorrow on the usual timetable.  I don’t expect the Saturday Night’s Main Event rating until Wednesday or NXT until Thursday.  The Dynamite rating is expected out on Thursday but that could be delayed.  I don’t expect the full charts for the week until Thursday.
  • Best wishes to Jim Ross, who will be having surgery tomorrow to remove colon cancer.  There is a front page story on his explanation of his ordeal.
  • MLW will have two title matches on tomorrow nights’ Arena Mexico Show.  Magnus &  Rugido defend the MLW tag titles against Blue Panther Jr. & Dark Panther and Ultimo Guerrero defends the Openweight Title against Hechicero.

In the Best of the Super Juniors, the A block final day is tomorrow morning with Kushida vs. Francesco Akira, Ninja Mack vs. Dragon Dia, Master Wato vs. Yoshinobu Kenmaru, Clark Connors vs. Kosei Fujita and Hiromu Takahashi vs. Robbie X.

Kushida, Akira, Kanemaru, X, Dia and Mack are eliminated at this point.

If Hiromu beats X,  he wins the block.  If Hiromu loses  and Connors beats Fujita, Connors wins the block.  If Hiromu and Connors lose and Wato beats Kanemaru, Wato wins the block.  If Hiromu Connors and Wato all lose, Fujita by beating  Connors wins the block.

The B block finishes Thursday morning with Kevin Knight vs.  Ryusuke Taguchi, Sho vs. Mao, Titan vs. Nick Wayne, Taiji Ishimori vs. Yoh and Robbie Eagles vs. El Desperado

Taguchi and Knight have no chance to win.

If Yoh beats Ishimori, he goes to the finals

If Yoh loses and Desperado wins, he’s in the finals

If Yoh and Desperado lose and Mao wins, he’s in the finals

There are tiebreakers not favoring Eagles, Ishimori, Wayne and SHO that even if they get 10, they’ve lost to a guy with 10 already.

YOH controls his destiny in the block, advancing with a win over Taiji Ishimori in his last match Thursday night. Desperado and MAO still hold strong shots, while SHO remains with an outside chance.  (thanks to Jeremy Finestone)

  • NXT tomorrow has Ethan Page vs. Ricky Saints for the North American title, Mike Santana vs. Tavion Heights, Stephanie Vaquer vs. Jacy Jayne for the NXT women’s title, Jaida Parker vs. Tatum Paxley and the debut in the ring of Jasper Troy.
  • Cody Garbrandt returns to UFC action facing Raoni Barcelos at 135 pounds on 6/14 in Atlanta.  That show also has Kamaru Usman vs. Joaquin Buckley as the main event and Paul Craig vs. Renato  Bellato.
  • Crusherfest returns to South Milwaukee, the home of The Crusher, on Saturday and Sunday.  There will be wrestling shows at 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.  There will be lots of activities related to Crusher including polish food, polka music and dancing, a Mr. Saloon competition and wrestlers from the past including Chris Jericho (whose band will be playing there), Tito Santana, Tommy Dreamer, Steve Keirn Al Snow, Jimmy Hart and Ken Resnick.
  • Mike Droese, the former Duke Droese in WWE, will be arraigned on Wednesday on charges   Attempted Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor based on charge of attempting to purchase child sexual assault material from the Dark web on April 21, 2024
  • Defy on 6/13 at Washington Hall in Seattle features the debut of Cedric Alexander.
