Scorpio Sky addresses AEW absence: ‘I don’t know if there is bad blood or not’

Scorpio Sky doesn’t know why he is no longer being featured in AEW.
The 42-year-old Sky has been with AEW since the promotion launched in 2019 and remains under contract with the company, but he has not wrestled for them since 2023. His most recent AEW matches took place on ROH in September and October of that year.
On his new Creating Character podcast that launched this week, Sky addressed his status, affirming that he’s healthy and wants to wrestle.
“Boy oh boy, my career has sure taken a nosedive hasn’t it?,” he joked. “Anyone that has followed me obviously knows that things have been a little different over the last couple of years.”
Sky said he’s curious what the outside perspective is regarding his AEW absence. He doesn’t know if fans think he’s injured, if they assume he isn’t good in the ring anymore, or if they think there is bad blood between AEW and him. Ultimately, Sky does not know the reason he isn’t on TV.
“The reality is I don’t know what it is,” he said. “I don’t know if there is bad blood or not. I know I’m healthy and I’ve been healthy for a long time and I’ve been wanting to compete. But it’s just one of those things where — what can you do? You only have so much say.”
Sky believes that, even though he went out of his way to not make the company look bad, an appearance he made on Insight with Chris Van Vliet last year may have caused some issues with someone in AEW.
“To be honest with you, I didn’t lie when I was on the show, but I definitely went out of my way to not make the company look bad,” Sky said. “You know, I really obviously wanted to preserve a relationship that had been built over a number of years and so I didn’t want to say anything that would like poison that relationship. Come to find out, I think someone there, still, maybe had a few issues with some of the things I did say. So now I’m like, ‘Screw it, I’m going to say whatever the hell I want now.’ [laughs]”
Sky signed a five-year contract extension with AEW in 2021. He’s a former TNT Champion and Tag Team Champion for the company. During his absence from AEW TV, he has wrestled some matches on the indies.
