Tony Khan reacts to WWE scheduling events against AEW

During Sunday night’s post-Double or Nothing press conference, Tony Khan reacted to the “consistent” trend of WWE running events on the same day as AEW pay-per-views.

Double or Nothing and NXT Battleground aired head-to-head last night with Double or Nothing taking place in Arizona and Battleground being held in Florida. When AEW All In: Texas happens this July, it could also face competition from WWE counter-programming. WWE has announced a loaded-up weekend of events for Atlanta featuring NXT Great American Bash, Saturday Night’s Main Event, and Evolution 2.

“It’s pretty consistent,” Khan responded when asked how he’s feeling about other companies scheduling events against AEW. “I’d say it’s the most consistent event head-to-head scheduling I’ve seen since Jim Crockett Promotions saw a lot of scheduling that went that way. And I can tell you this will go a lot differently than that did. Thank you for asking.”

This isn’t the first time Khan has compared the situation AEW is in to Jim Crockett Promotions, the predecessor to WCW. In 2022, he vowed that he had a lot more money than Jim Crockett did and wasn’t going to sit back and take this kind of treatment from WWE.

All In: Texas will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington on the afternoon of Saturday, July 12. Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Page for the AEW World Championship and Toni Storm vs. Mercedes Mone for the AEW Women’s World Championship have already been confirmed for the PPV. Page and Mone earned the respective title shots through their Owen Hart Foundation tournament victories.
