Former Tegan Nox has had ‘severe lack of bookings’ since WWE release

It’s been a difficult start to free agency for Nixon Newell since her release from WWE.

The former Tegan Nox was released from her WWE contract in November 2024 and officially became a free agent earlier this year. She’s had some matches since then — including returning to her home country of Wales for Attack Pro Wrestling — but Newell says it’s been tough to get bookings.

“Not great, if I’m being honest,” she told Wrestling in the Middle when asked how free agency is going. “Severe lack of bookings. Not sure where that’s from, but the bookings that I have done, like I’ve been home to Attack [Pro Wrestling], which has been phenomenal. Got to wrestle Dani Luna, who’s been on my list, God, for years since she first started training I could tell she was going to be something special. So she’s been on my list for a very, very long time, so I’m glad that one was in the books at least. But, yeah, it’s been slow. Hopefully it picks up soon, because it’s a nightmare [laughs]. But hopefully soon it gets better.”

This was Newell’s second stint with WWE after she was initially with the company from 2017-2021. She returned in 2022 and spent two more years with WWE before her second release.

Newell told Wrestling in the Middle that she wasn’t shocked by the release because of how infrequently she was being used. She is determined to prove herself in the ring and wants to wrestle anywhere she can. Newell wants to dispel the narrative of her being injury prone because of her past knee issues.

“Did I want it to happen? Yes and no,” Newell said about her release. “In a sense of, no, that was my dream job. I’ve wanted that since I was a kid. All my friends worked there at the time. But, yes, I wanted to wrestle, which, you know, still hasn’t panned out great. But at least now I can do what I want to do and have fun with wrestling again. Instead of just being stuck in the same story with the knees, which was the most disheartening thing to constantly keep doing when my knees — I haven’t been injured with my knees since 2019, whenever the last knee surgery was. That was the last time I was hurt with my knees. So it wasn’t like they were injured at all, you know?”

Newell is based in the United States and says she would love to join AEW. There are a lot of people in AEW that she wants to wrestle. However, Newell does not believe AEW is interested in her.

“I’m interested, I’d love to go there,” she said. “But as far as I know, I don’t think there’s an interest from them, which is a shame. But I would love to go there.”

Newell also mentioned that she would be interested in returning to Japanese promotion Stardom. She last wrestled there in 2017 before starting her WWE career.
