MJF calls Mistico ‘sloppy Sin Cara,’ match confirmed for AEW Grand Slam Mexico

A first time ever clash is official for next Wednesday’s AEW Grand Slam Mexico as former AEW World Champion MJF takes on the legendary Mistico.

The match was confirmed during Wednesday’s AEW Summer Blockbuster after Mistico picked up a victory over Blake Christian. MJF, Shelton Benjamin, MVP and Bobby Lashley then came out and MJF said he would go through with the match he suggested last week, then saying for one night only, he was going to bust out the red, white and blue and be the American hero.

MJF leaned into the American hero character during his brief International title run in 2024 where he renamed the belt the American title. One of his title defenses was in his debut at Arena Mexico against Templario as part of August 2, 2024’s CMLL Viernes Espectacular.

His MJF-styled American flag and red, white and blue streamers then went off as the entire Hurt Syndicate entered the ring. MJF continued to run him down, saying “I grew up watching you on TV. You ain’t Mistico to me. To me, you’re still just sloppy Sin Cara.” As MJF was about to say more, Mistico then grabbed the microphone to say he would see him next week at his home of Arena Mexico along with some choice words in Spanish.

A brawl broke out and Mistico was outnumbered, leading to “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Mascara Dorada and Kevin Knight coming out for their advertised trios bout. After the babyfaces lost, MJF took out Dorada and ripped his mask off before Mistico came out for the save, getting a visual tapout to La Mistica.

It’s the first official match announced for AEW’s Arena Mexico debut next Wednesday.
